Course Details


BDS Program

The department is involved in teaching Undergraduate students of I BDS, II BDS & III BDS in the subjects of Oral Anatomy & Histology and Oral Pathology & Microbiology respectively. In Oral Anatomy & Histology, theory classes are taken covering all the basic aspects and practical’s are dealt with respect to the normal histology slides related to tooth development and various other Oro-facial structures, identification of normal morphology and different dentitions of human teeth with the help of casts and specimens. It is also related with carving of all permanent teeth and theory knowledge of all deciduous teeth.

In Oral Pathology, theory classes are taken covering all the basic aspects of oral pathology and microbiology and forensic odontology and practical classes are taken wherein students are trained to identify the pathology slides, casts and specimens of Oral diseases. Students are also to trained to give seminars, slide discussion and also to identify the pathology in patients and update the same to the department faculty for query discussion.

The students are expected to present scientific data pertaining to the field, in conferences both as poster and verbal presentations and to take part in group discussions etc.

Museum:
The department museum consists of specimens include neoplastic & non-neoplastic lesions, hard tissue pathology which provide excellent learning opportunities for undergraduates. The specimens are constantly restored; replaced and new specimens are added every year. A rare and interesting case is displayed routinely in the department along with description of the lesion for the benefit of the students. Museum also consists of casts, Normal tooth specimens and developmental anomalies specimens.

Library:
The department library has various collection of books intended for use and the teaching aids like models, charts, casts and specimens are available and are used routinely.

Collaborations:
The Department has collaborated with Bangalore Medical College & Research Centre (BMCRI) & ChandrammaSagar Institute of Medical Education & Research (CDSIMER) to facilitate a week long observership for its interns in the Department of Forensic Medicine at the respective institutions. The students are exposed to autopsy procedures conducted with Special emphasis being placed on learning about autopsy procedures done on the maxillofacial complex.
The Department is also in partnership with the Indian Dental Association to contribute to the National Oral Cancer Registry.
