Our Founders

Late Shri R Dayananda Sagar

Our Founder, Late Sri R Dayananda Sagar, was a graduate in Arts & Commerce from India & a barrister-at-law from England. He was a great visionary, an educationist, a powerhouse of knowledge and a believer in transforming the world besides a leader par excellence who saw no reason why, as an Indian, he could not provide education for all sections of society. In setting up Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peetha Education Trust (MGVP) in the 1960s, Late Shri R Dayananda Sagar also played an important role in the education sector of the emerging India.



Late Smt. Chandramma Sagar

Wife of the founder, Late Smt Chandramma Sagar was a Doctor by profession - a Triple FRCS from London, Edinburgh and Glasgow. She was in the panel of Doctors for the President of India.

The Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peeta (MGVP) Trust
The MGVP Trust has contributed to educate the world for over 60 years carefully building an alumni of over 100,000 including accomplished professionals, law makers, sports personalities, celebrities spread all over the world. The Trust manages 28 Educational Institutions in the name of “DAYANANDA SAGAR INSTITUTIONS” (DSI) in honour of its Founder President, Late Sri R Dayananda Sagar, " Dr. CHANDRAMMA DAYANANDA SAGAR INSTITUE OF MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH " in fond memory of Late Dr . Chandramma Sagar and multi – Specialty hospitals in the name of SAGAR HOSPITALS - Bangalore, India.

Dr. Chandramma Dayananda Sagar Institute of Medical Education and Research (CDSIMER) established under Dayananda Sagar University is a smart campus that has been established across a sprawling 140 acres land with an environment that encourages creativity, stimulates innovation and motivates scholarly pursuits to revolutionize the nature of medicine, science and society for national and global welfare. The campus provides world class infrastructure equipped with modern facilities for medical teaching, pursuing medical science research and practice holistic clinical patient-care. 

Health care education has been gaining prominence at the DSI campus through the diploma, graduate and post graduate  programs in Dental, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences The Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences (DSCDS) was established in 1991, located at Campus – 1, a 23 acre picturesque lush-green campus in South Bengaluru and is easily approachable through all means of transport. The college is affiliated to the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and is Recognized by the Dental Council of India for all courses offered. DSCDS initially offered Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) with an intake of 40 students which was later enhanced to 60 per year. At present DSCDS offers not only Bachelors’ Degree but also Masters of Dental Surgery (MDS) in 7 specialities and Post-Doctoral Degree in 4 specialities.
