HOD's Message


The department of Periodontology is headed by Dr. Savita A.M. who has a teaching experience of 26 years. With more than 10 years of association with the department in DSCDS.

Every day I am motivated by the work we do, which has an impact not just on the present, but on the future. For that reason, I am extremely proud to have been trusted with the responsibility of serving as the Head of the Department. Our faculty is exceptional and we offer a full range of academic programs including a comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate program. Periodontology is evolving faster and I consider it to be the backbone of dentistry. Periodontology in recent times has undergone some exciting changes wherein research and development have influenced clinical periodontology from the diagnostic table to various management protocols & procedures. The objective of our department is to bring the academicians and clinicians together, facilitate exchange of thoughts and ideas, provide an opportunity to imbibe new concepts and integrate these into practice for benefit of patients, students and wellbeing of the population.
Our department serves the community through activities in teaching, patient care, research and professional service. We do this by providing:

  • Future dentists a thorough knowledge in the diagnosis and management of periodontal diseases
  • Training in advanced clinical skills in periodontal surgeries, dental implants, laser assisted surgeries and microsurgery.
  • Latest data to enhance our understanding of factors that affect individual vulnerability to periodontal diseases and to improve clinical treatment options

In our department, the research we do communicates to the path that oral health is gateway to general health. The students are educated and trained to represent the future of our profession and oral health care for social well-being.
