The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a methodology adopted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to evaluate and rank higher education institutions across the country. The framework was approved by the erstwhile Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and formally launched on 29 September 2015.

NIRF provides a comprehensive and structured approach to institutional ranking, based on the recommendations and insights of a Core Committee constituted by the MHRD. This methodology identifies key parameters that reflect the overall performance and quality of institutions. These parameters broadly encompass Teaching, Learning and Resources; Research and Professional Practices; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity; and Perception.
